\"nature\"<\/a>\u2018Another moral law exists, one that is as eternal as the law of agriculture I have already spoken about, and it is this: \u201cAs you have sown, so you shall reap.\u201d This law has been true since the world began. Perhaps you think that it applies only to agriculture, that it has nothing to do with morality. No, you have to realize that the laws that apply in the field of thoughts and feelings are the same as those that apply to agriculture. Thoughts have the same characteristics as seeds. When you plant a thought in someone\u2019s mind it produces fruit of its own kind, for the mind is a soil in which things can be planted. That is why this law belongs to eternal moral law and not to man-made law. It has been said, \u201cHe who sows the wind reaps the whirlwind.\u201d This too is a moral law that has never changed. It is as absolute as the laws of physics and chemistry. Farmers were the first moralists. If they didn\u2019t plant, they didn\u2019t expect a harvest, and if they planted lettuce, they knew they wouldn\u2019t be harvesting carrots. So why do people who sow hate and discord hope to harvest love and peace\u00a0? To build a marble palace, you don\u2019t use bricks. To have a healthy body, you don\u2019t take in putrifying foods. So how can people have a strong psyche, a clear intellect and a generous heart if they are endlessly agitated by chaotic thoughts and sentiments, poisoned by greed or bitterness? We must classify our thoughts and emotions, just as we do with food, or in the construction of a house\u2026 The laws that govern our psyche are the same as those which have been discovered in the other domains of nature and technology. Neither human beings not societies have invented morality. Morality is inscribed everywhere in nature, and it is these same natural laws that exist in our psyche.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Law of Cause and Effect<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"P0202AN\"<\/a>\u2018Man cannot perform even the slightest act without inevitably triggering certain forces which, just as inevitably, produce certain effects. This notion of the relation of cause to effect was primordial in the original meaning of the word karma<\/em>. It was only later that Karma was taken to mean the debt incurred by past misdeeds. Karma-yoga, one of the many different yogas which exist in India, is nothing more than a discipline which teaches individuals to develop themselves through disinterested activities destined to set them free. It is when man acts with covetousness, cunning and dishonesty that he begins to incur debts, and it is then that Karma takes on the meaning which is now commonly attributed to it: punishment for faults committed in the past. In point of fact it would be true to say that Karma \u2013 in the second sense of the word \u2013 becomes operative whenever anyone does something which is less a than perfect, and of cours this includes almost every one of our actions! But man proceeds by trail and error. He needs to practise before he can do something perfectly.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Dharma is the result of well-ordered, harmonious, beneficial actions. Someone who is capable of acting in that way frees himself from the dominion of fate and falls under the law of Providence. It is no good trying to avoid trouble and suffering by avoiding all action ; the best way is to be active, dynamic and full of initiative, but instead of acting from egoism and self-interest, to act only from higher motives. This is the only way to avoid disastrous consequences. It is utterly impossible to escape cons\u00e9quences : one way or another there are bound to be causes and consequences whatever you do. The thing to remember is that if you manage to act unselfishly, then the consequences will not be painful, but joyful and happy and liberating.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Law of\u00a0 Correspondences<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u2018\u2026Every spirit which incarnates on this earth possesses organs and faculties which correspond to all the virtues and qualities on high in Heaven, and this being so, everything is possible to him. Not all at once, of course, but gradually. If he knows and abides by the laws, he can undertake the most stupendous tasks. What are the laws in question? Well, suppose you have two identical tuning forks: if you set one of them vibrating you will find that the other one vibrates also, without your having touched it. This is what is known as resonance. Everybody knows about this phenomenon, but no one stops to analyse it and to see that exactly the same thing occurs between a human being and the cosmos. If a man attunes his physical and psychological being to the same vibrations as those of the universe, he can reach out to touch the heavenly powers and establish a bond and an interaction with them which will help and comfort him. Vibrations are a means of communication. You speak and someone hears you. You can even set certain forces in motion and draw them to yourself so that you can benefit from them. There is interaction and exchange, therefore, between you and any region of the universe you choose, and you must know that it is precisely in this interaction that God has placed man\u2019s very best means of attaining perfection.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Law of Affinity<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018According to the law of affinity, each \u00e9l\u00e9ment, by its vibrations, by its quintessence, exists in relationship with other \u00e9l\u00e9ments of the same nature, which it is therefore able to attract. This explains how your thoughts and your sentiments attract other beings, elements and events that correspond to them. So as a result of your thoughts and your sentiments you can be crushed, and as a result of your thoughts and sentiments you can become king of the world. It is very simple, very clear\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n

Natural and Moral Law<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"nature1\"<\/a>\u2018There are a certain number of physical laws which govern the whole of nature, including our own bodies, and although human beings may not always obey them, at least they acknowledge their existence. Unfortunately this is not true when it comes to moral law. Those who acknowledge the existence of moral laws are few and far between nowadays, and even if people still have some faint belief in the necessity for a certain order, most writers, philosophers, and artists create works of art\u00a0the sole aim of which is to dispel the last remnants of this belief. But it is precisely the moral laws which I want to talk about today, because when these laws are not recognized, something essential is missing from human knowledge. Ignorance is no defence before the law: even if you do not know the moral laws, if you flout them by your behaviour, you will be obliged to suffer the consequences. When this happens, one begins to realize that the moral sphere is also ruled by a certain number of laws and that these laws are far subtler than those which govern the physical world, for they are engraved not only into our physical bodies but also into our souls and spirits. Those who fail to abide by these laws are seen as self-centred egoists by their fellowmen, and before long they begin to feel deprived of support and friendship. Whatever their offence, they will have to pay for it. And what will be the coin of this payment? Well, this can vary considerably: it can be in the form of remorse, pain or suffering, bitterness, regrets and disappointments, and sometimes even money. This is something that can be seen on every level. Everything is connected, related to everything else. The moral domain is governed by immutable, indestructible laws which you should know.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Law of Records<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018\u2026Everything is recorded. To know this law should be enough to convince you that you should be very careful not to indulge every passing fancy. Every bad thought, even if it only passes through your mind, leaves an imprint on you which will be with you for all eternity, all the more so because once a negative imprint has been made, there is a tendency for it to become a pattern, a stereotype, which repeats itself over and over again indefinitely. I have often talked to you about this and explained how you can create new patterns in yourself which will end by replacing the old bad habits acquired in the past. If you do nothing to substitute good patterns for the bad ones, they will stay with you, time and again, in every reincarnation. You must erase them, otherwise there is no reason why they should not reappear each time. Hold on to your good patterns, your qualities and virtues, and work at improving them (there is always room for improvement), but you must also work at correcting your defects.Since everything is recorded, you must take care to record only what is purest and best. And once you begin you will see for yourself that you will be so captivated by this activity, so busy and inspired, that it will become an inexhaustible source of joy to you.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Laws of Justice and Love<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\"justiceetamour1\"<\/a>\u2018Those who are truly inhabited by the light and power of the spirit are able to surmount the hate that ordinarliy takes hold of the hearts of men and women who are unjustly persecuted. In the midst of their suffering they say : \u00ab The conduct of my enemies reveals that they are deprived of all that is the richness of the spiritual life ! And although I am their victim, they are not victorious, because they can do nothing against this part of me that is nourished every day by truth, by beauty. \u00bb In this way they obtain what they never could have obtained by any other means : this inner freedom that gives them the power to forgive their enemies.\u2019<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
