Come together as one human family

‘Humans are defined by the fact that they are endowed with consciousness, but they are only truly conscious when they are awakened to the notions of collectivity, of universality. This faculty allows them to enter into the heart and soul of others, to the extent that when they cause others to suffer, they themselves experience the pain they have inflicted. They feel and understand that everything they do to others, both good and bad, they do to themselves. In appearance, each human appears to be distinct and separate from everyone else. But in reality, a part of them is connected to the collective whole and lives in all creatures throughout the cosmos. Once this collective consciousness is awakened in you, you will sense in your relations with others that everything – your thoughts, feelings, words and actions – comes back to you like an echo, because your being, by extending throughout the universe, has become a collective entity. It is this state of consciousness that can be called a sense of fraternity.’

Translation of the audio.

Now, what is said here is that the distance between people is the cause of everything.  People feel separate from one another. All misunderstandings among them come from this sense of separation in their consciousness. In order to explain this and summarize everything for you, I want to focus on this matter. When we study human beings, we observe that they aren’t perfect.  They aren’t informed, enlightened. They live in the past, in their feelings, in their separateness and their egoism.  They observe each other and conclude that everyone is different. One eats more or less than another, works, breathes and sleeps more or less than another, is bigger or smaller, more or less beautiful, and so on. So they regard everyone as completely different, without seeing that in fact they are all the same. There is no difference. Within, people are all made with the desire to love, to learn, to eat and drink; they suffer and rejoice in the same way. Inwardly, then, all are designed in the same way. Outwardly they are all different. And now for the proof. Suppose you are living a spiritual life and you begin to love people, to feel for them and to come closer to them. You come to realize you are connected to them, linked to them, and that when they are unhappy and suffer, you suffer. Their suffering resonates in you, and when they are joyful, you too are joyful. So there is a tie. It is the initiates who have perceived this, not others. So by continuing to work on this, one comes to sense all of humanity as one being, and to vibrate in unison with it. How wonderful!

Why is it so difficult for humans to live together?

‘Because they do not show one another enough attention or respect. Collective life as practised in a spiritual brotherhood is also a wonderful opportunity for its members to evolve and expand their consciousness. Those who lead a solitary life can be selfish and temperamental. There is no one standing next to them, no one for whom they must try to watch and improve their behaviour. But as soon as they begin to have anything to do with other people, what an effort – and it’s so hard! When people are aware that they belong to a whole that is much greater than themselves and are careful not to allow their actions, thoughts and feelings – their internal noise – to disturb the harmony, it shows that they are evolved. You will say, ‘What do you mean by their internal noise?’ Yes, all noise is the result of a dissonance, and the internal noise that humans make with their feelings, torments and rebellions disturbs the psychic atmosphere. Those who make a noise are unaware that they are also harming themselves, for one day this noise will take the form of psychological or even physical problems.’

We are now entering the era of brotherhood. Human beings must no longer erect barriers among themselves, but must walk together, side by side, to form a universal brotherhood on earth, in which all beings will form one vast family. When this is realised, frontiers will fall, and instead of wasting enormous sums of money protecting themselves from others, all nations will live in abundance and peace. These are the ideas that inspire the teaching of the Universal White Brotherhood. They explain why our ideal is to develop ourselves on all levels, so that we may become examples. Our ideal is for all of humanity to advance together, united by this love that God has envisioned for all human beings. Our ideal is to live harmoniously within the collective life, because it is here that all blessings are to be found.’
